"Back In Black" Exhibition
Otino Corsano & Pete Smith
BACK IN BLACK
The Spoke Club Gallery
August 2 - August 22, 2005
"Back In Black" is the appropriated title for this exhibition of new collaborative works from Smith and Corsano. Album covers and art posters are layered over with abstract motifs and ad signage to remix messages. Pete and Otino have been creating collaborative art projects since their first solo exhibition "4 Eyes" at Katharine Mulherin Contemporary Art Projects (2003). Their work has also been featured at P|M Gallery (2005), Red Head Galllery (2004), Habourfront Centre (2004) and Zsa Zsa (2003). Corsano & Smith's collaborative works are available at Katharine Mulherin Contemporary Art Projects.
Otino Corsano is a new genres artist who employs text in the conceptualist tradition of an art-reflexive practice. After completing his MFA from Otis College of Art (Los Angeles) he has exhibited his solo work in North America and abroad. He teaches at the Ontario College of Art and Design and his writings can be found at www.samplesize.ca. Otino's work is available at Katharine Mulherin Contemporary Art Projects and P|M Gallery in Toronto.
Pete Smith's paintings progress from contemporary abstract discourses. Smith's work is informed by an eclectic range of cultural references, from science fiction to professional baseball. Currently completing his MFA at the University of Guelph, Pete has exhibited extensively across Canada. He is represented by Joan Ferneyhough Gallery (North Eastern Ontario). His work is also available at Katharine Mulherin Contemporary Art Projects (Toronto) and Elissa Cristall Gallery (Vancouver).
Otino and Pete wish to thank Mike Shore and Popsy Johnstone for their invitation and support to present this exhibition exclusively for The Spoke Club members and community.
