Graham Gillmore
by Otino Corsano

The Issue 33, 2012 of artUS Magazine featured
my interview with Graham Gillmore.

Gillmore's work is included
in a new group exhibition
Monte Clark Gallery
Vancouver
August 16, 2012 to October 31, 2012
Opening: Thursday August 16th, 6pm

THE MONTE CLARK GALLERY opened in the fall of 1992 in Gastown, Vancouver.
To mark the occasion of this 20th anniversary, the Monte Clark Gallery will present an exhibition of specially selected works from gallery artists. The exhibit will feature artists that Monte has represented within the last twenty years, alongside three new artists:
Jay Issac (Toronto), Mari Eastman (Los Angeles) and Paul Housley (London UK).

Gillmore credits the work of artists Julian Schnabel, Jean-Michel Basquiat, David Salle and Bryce Marden for informing and inspiring his artistic quest. He is a disciplined, prolific and highly successful artist who has exhibited annually since 1984. His work can be found in numerous private, corporate and public collections in Canada, the United States and abroad including the Museum of Modern Art, New York City, The Ghent Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Artists for Kids Gallery in North Vancouver. Graham Gillmore exhibits with the Monte Clark Gallery in Vancouver/Toronto and currently lives and works in Winlaw, BC.

I usually start with washes of bright primary colours, gradually neutralized through successive pourings. Sometimes, just a
sliver
of pure colour will peek through the murkiness, like a brilliant flash
from an otherwise foggy ground, only to slip underneath again.
