Special Thanks to Jessica Thompson for writing an article about my "SpeedWave" performance for this recent issue of Spacing magazine. I still have not located a copy, yet I understand they are sold at Pages on Queen Street West.

I interviewed Jessica Thompson for my 4th "Artist Interview" podcast.

  • In this podcast I speak to Jessica Thompson about two of her sound based new media projects. SOUNDBIKE is a portable sound piece that uses motion-based mini-generators mounted to an ordinary bicycle to broadcast the sound of laughter as the bike moves through the urban environment. Walking Machine is a portable sound piece designed to enable wearers to move through urban areas hearing the amplified sound of their own footsteps in real time.

I would like to thank Jessica, especially for allowing me to be the first to record sounds generated from the Walking Machine.

The fourth podcast was recorded on Thursday Feburary 2nd 2006. Podcast editing was completed on Thursday June 30, 2006.

SoundBike: The laughter is generated by playing sequences of short source clips that start when the bike reaches a cruising speed, and then respond to the bike's velocity. The piece is exhibited by loaning the bike on an honour system.

1135115110wlkng_mchn7Walking Machine: is a portable audio piece designed to enable wearers to move through urban areas hearing the amplified sound of their own footsteps in real time. The piece consists of two lapel microphones modified to clip to low-cut shoes, a mini amplifier and a set of headphones
